A Research Paper Outline Template In The APA Format

An APA format research paper is the standard for most colleges and universities, this format is easy to use and once you have done it a few times, the format becomes second nature to you in how you will be writing your research papers.  There are some general rules to write an APA style paper and if you follow these rules that I outline you will hand in a correctly formatted research paper.

Template Of APA Format Rules

The first thing you want to do when you open up you Word document to write you paper is to get it set up in APA format.  The first thing you should do is to set your font to Times New Roman 12pt font, this is the standard in APA papers.  Then you want to set the margin to one inch on the top, bottom, right, and left.  Then make the whole document double-spaced and there should be once space between commas, colons, and semicolons and two after punctuation.  The alignment is flush left, except for title, which should be in bold and centered.  And make sure to indent at each paragraph.  

Now you have to make the header of your paper, this is usually a shorten version of your title if it is long.  It goes in the right hand corner, along with a page number.  This is to be on every page of your paper because then if your instructor gets you paper out of order they can put it back together easily.

When you are writing your research paper, makes sure that it is in active voice.  This means that you shouldn’t us I or We in the paper, it has to be impersonal because it is not your opinion but fact.

The order of the research paper is as follows: Title Page, which is to be centered on the page and include your title, name, school’s name, so instructors might have you put the date or class also on this part of your paper depending on what they instruct you to do.  Then you will compose your abstract, which is the introduction to your paper and is where you tell the reader about your research.  Next the body is all of your research to support the topic that you have chosen for your paper.  Then you will put in your reference, appendices, footnotes, tables, and figures at the end.  Usually you will only need the reference part of this but you might need the others if they are required.  And always start a new page with each section of your paper.
